MT. VERNON — The City Council will be discussing an amendment to the development plan on file for the Times Square Mall, which will allow for the mall to accommodate new tenants Hobby Lobby and Big Lots.
The mall is in an area zoned as a planned business district, which required a development plan approved by the city. The mall owners have submitted an amendment to the plan, which was presented to the Zoning and Planning Commission on Sept. 10. The commission voted to recommend the amendment to the council.
The plan submitted will divide the west end of the mall into three tenant spaces, including the space formerly occupied by Sears, which closed earlier this month. Additional spaces will be renovated as well under the proposal.
Due to the changes, new plumbing, electrical and a change in signage is expected as well as changes in some of the entry ways to the facility.
In addition to the amended plan for the mall, the council will:
Hear a request to close Jamison Street from 27th Street to 34th Street, Water Tower Place to the round about on Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the Every Mile is a Memory 5k Color Run;
Hear a request to close Jordan Street from North Seventh Street to North Eighth Street on Oct. 5 and Nov. 2 from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Market Day;
Hear a request to seek bids for a new roof at the Armory;
Hear the fiscal year 2012-13 audit report;
Hold a first reading on an ordinance to zone property at 1801 S. 10th St. from I-1 to B-2 by Martin & Bayley, Inc.;
Discuss a resolution approving a strategic housing program agreement with Zanola Col., regarding phase two marketing and contract for services;
Discuss a resolution approving an agreement with the Evansville Western Railway allowing for a pedestrian and bicycle crossing at the railroads line on 20th Street; and
Hear a proclamation for Drive 4 Pledges Day.
The council will meet 7 p.m. on Monday at the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building at Veterans Park.
