Caregiver seminar set for Aug. 15
Caregiver Connection monthly seminar will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Aug. 15.
Caregiver Connection is available to care providers in Mt. Vernon and the surrounding area. the topic of this month’s seminar is “Medication Safety.” People over the age of 65 consume more than one-third of prescription medications in the United States. In this session, caregivers can educate themselves on proper use of medications and how to keep their loved one safe. The seminar will be presented by Trisha Katt, BA Caregiver Advisor at Heartland Human Services.
The seminar will be held in the activity room at Lavender Ridge in Mt. Vernon, 1400 S. 34th St. Refreshments will be provided.

Group to meet
The Grandparents/Relatives Raising Children Support Group will meet 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 13 at Christian Fellowship Church, 4616 Cherry St., Mt. Vernon. Refreshments will be provided.
The group meets monthly and provides support, education and access to additional resources.

Historical Society hosts ice cream social Aug. 10
MT. VERNON — The Jefferson County Historical Society will host its annual Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Aug. 10 at the Historical Village, 1411 N. 27th St., Mt. Vernon.
Tickets for the event are $5 and can be purchased in advance at the Historical Society office or on the day of the event.
Ice cream, cake and drink are included in the ticket price, and the event is open to the public.
