Criminal code laws on tap for Illinois

SPRINGFIELD — There are almost 200 laws which will take effect on Jan. 1, including those affecting the criminal code.

Crimes against children, sexual crimes are among those which have been targeted, as well as creating new crimes and  fines for prohibited activities. At least eight of the new laws address sexual predators and sex crimes. Most clarify the existing laws, closing loopholes and increase restrictions on known sex offenders.

Sen. John O. Jones (R-Mt. Vernon) recently updated constituents to many of the laws which will take effect in the new year. Those relating to the crimes, courts and the criminal code include:
