MT. VERNON — — Summersville Grade School raised an estimated $1,550 for the American Heart Association as part of a recent fundraising effort held in advance of the April 12 South Central Illinois Heart Walk. The amount of money raised was well above the school's goal of $250.
Keyma Mount, a math teacher at the school, has a daughter who was born with a congenital heart defect. This situation inspired Mount to take an active role in this year's Heart Walk, and also motivated the school to hold the fundraising drive.
