Airport promised $400,000 grant

MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon Airport has been promised over $400,000 for Fiscal Year 2014 in improvements, it was announced at Tuesday’s Airport Authority meeting.

Chairman Mike Ancona said the correspondence was received from Mike McCue, programmer for the Aeronautics Division of the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The state apportionment for the grant is $246,000 and the local match is $21,000, information states. The grant will be used for taxiway rehabilitation, according to Manager Chris Collins.

“This shows the airport is a viable attribute to the city. It brings jobs and money to the community,” Ancona said.

An update on the Innovation Park project was given by Ancona, who reported footings are in place around two-thirds of the foundation, and rock is being installed. A plumber will be on site Friday to install underground lines.

IN OTHER BUSINESS: Health Alliance added an $85 per month adjustment for coverage, based on Collins’ age. The new rate is $1,744 per month, it was reported.

n Members learned an additional $1,393 annual premium is due for property and equipment insurance through local agent Guy Wood Insurance. Collins explained the additional amount is to add on coverage for three rental properties the authority owns. The properties were not included during a bid letting earlier, an oversight on the part of the Authority and insurance representatives. The new premium will be included in the Authority’s three-year agreement it reached with its carrier.

n Authority members granted a $1 per hour pay raise for administrative assistant Sheila Jolly-Scrivner, who has now been employed over 90 days by the Authority.

n Authority members tabled a recommendation made by its auditor to update its personnel policy guide — specifically policies involving whistleblowers, conflict of interest, and a drug-free workplace. Authority members wanted input from other board members Dr. David Asbery and Joe Bob Pierce, who were unable to attend the meeting, before taking action.
