BLUFORD — Hundreds of items will be available for those last-minute Christmas shoppers who are scoping out the perfect gift for a loved one during the annual Christmas auction and chili supper Saturday at Bluford Grade School.
The annual event is being sponsored by the Bluford Ruritan Club.
The chili supper starts at 4:30 p.m. and the auction will begin at approximately 6 p.m.
"This is one of our major fundraisers of the year," said Ruritan Club President Chuck Pepple. "We've been successful in the past, and we expect to have another big crowd this year. It's a good overall event for the community."
Proceeds from the fundraiser helps the club support various community projects such as the Bluford area food pantry, local schools, the Veterans Memorial and the Webber Fire Protection District, along with maintenance of the Bluford Ruritan Club building.
Merchandise for the auction is provided by Thomas Factory Outlet in Olney. Dagg's Auction provides its services for the auction.
The auction will feature a few big ticket items, such as curio cabinets, small China cabinets and hutches.
"That is in addition to all the other miscellaneous toys, tools, gloves, and candles. There's just a whole lot of different items that will be available," Pepple said.
One of the highlights of the auction will the raffle of a Henry Golden Boy .22 rifle. The winner of the raffle has the choice of taking the gun or $400, Pepple said.
"That is a big item. It's the third year for that particular gun, and it's a nice gun," Pepple said. Tickets may be purchased for the gun raffle for $5 each or five tickets for $20.
Raffle tickets for a 50/50 drawing will also be sold.
"With the recent poor weather, this will give people an opportunity to come out of the cold, eat some hot food, and then get ready for Christmas by purchasing merchandise in one place," Pepple said.
In addition to Pepple, officers of the Bluford Ruritan Club are: Earl Robertson, vice president; Ted Gresham, secretary; and David Goldman, treasurer.
