Prom queen candidates announced

MT. VERNON — — The Mt. Vernon Township High School Prom is slated for 6:30 p.m. April 28, at the Logan Street Pavilion on 42nd Street, with a theme of “A Night Under the Stars.”

Prom queen candidates have been announced.

Paige McDonald is the daughter of Jerry McDonald and Beth McDonald. She is being escorted by Trace Turner. She is involved in varsity cheerleading, golf, soccer, student council and Sub Debs.

Madison Walton is the daughter of Brett and Meleah Walton. She is being escorted by Luke Eaton. She is involved in Thespian Society, Theater for Kids, Operetta, National Honors Society, WYSE, Acapella Choir, soccer, her freshman and sophomore years, and BASIC. She is a member of Logan Street Baptist Church, participates in youth groups, mission trips, the praise band, the Illinois Baptist State Association and the All State Youth Choir. “I played piano for 10 years and love to sing,” Walton said. “My family travels all over, which is partly the reason I developed my hidden passion — snow skiing.” Walton plans to attend Eastern Illinois University and major in elementary education.

NaEquah Rollins is the daughter of Eugenia Rollins. She is being escorted by Tyree Trimble. She has been invovled with Upward Bound, and does volunteer work at her church. She is also a former member of FCCLA.

Destiny Stroud is the daughter of Boulder Stroud and Shelly Stroud. She is being escorted by Chase McGill. Stroud plans to attend Rend Lake College for two years, then transfer to get a real estate license. Her goal is to own her own business. “I do anything I can to make someone laugh or smile,” Stroud said. “Making people happy is what is most important to me, alongside being successful.”

Chandler Scarbrough is the daughter of Jeff and Amy Scarbrough. She is being escorted by Christian Hollenkamp. She has been involved with varsity soccer, Student Council, Sub Debs, NHS, served as class treasurer, FBLA vice president and is a volunteer at GreenTree on Saturdays.

Grace McDowell is the daughter of Mitch and Shelley McDowell. She is being escorted by Nathan Holt. She has been involved with National Honor Society, Thespian Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Operetta, FCA, BASIC, sings at Central Christian Church, plays guitar and is active with youth group.

Libbey Harrah is the daughter of the late Walt Harrah and Cartha Harrah. She is being escorted by Isaac Lowery. “I cheer both football and basketball,” Harrah said. “Also, I take part in Youth and Government and National Honor Society. When homework is not too heavy, I like to hang out with friends and especially my family.”

Annie Mulvaney is the daughter of Jim and Laurie Mulvaney. She is being escorted by Casey Mellott. She is involved with National Honor Society, Youth and Government, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is a worship leader at Central Christian Church, Operetta, volunteers at GreenTree on Saturday mornings and participates in devotional groups at church.
