Reward offered in robbery case

MT. VERNON — — Jefferson County Crimestoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or people involved in a battery and armed robbery occurring early Friday morning in the 1400 block of South 10th Street.

A Crimestoppers news release states an individual was walking a dog when the victim was jumped by two black males wearing hooded sweatshirts. The victim was hit on the head and money was taken. The assailants were about 6-feet tall, according to the release.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Crimestoppers tip line at 242-8477 or the Mt. Vernon Police Department at 242-2131.

Those sharing information with Crimestoppers do not have to leave their name or telephone number and there is no caller ID.

Meanwhile, the city police department went to America's Best Value Inn, Room 102, on Thursday looking for a suspect in a methamphetamine related case. Upon arrival an overwhelming chemical odor was detected coming from the room. The occupants of the room were removed and taken into custody without incident, according to a news release.

Jennifer N. Craig, 35, and Kyle R. Badgett, 21, were arrested on various methamphetamine related charges and taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center with bail to be set.

Police also say they made a drug-related arrested on Tuesday. Devin W. Goodwin, 30, was taken into custody on methamphetamine related charges.

Police indicate they made a traffic stop in the 600 block of South 23rd Street on Tuesday after receiving information that an occupant of the vehicle had recently purchased item at a local store known to be used to manufacture meth. During the stop and search, the items used to manufacture meth were found in the vehicle and it was discovered the occupants lived on South 23rd Street. Police then obtained a search warrant for the residence and several items used in the manufacture of methamphetamine were found in the basement, leading to Goodwin's arrest.
