---- — Tim Gutknecht, a 10-year Rotarian from Missouri, is welcomed by Mt. Vernon Rotary President Carl Miller to speak about the Belize Children’s Program. The District 6510 project was co-founded by Mt. Vernon Rotarian Jim Jackson in the 1970s, and seeks to help children in Belize who need orthopedic care. Each year the district sends a doctor to Belize to host clinics and identify the children’s various needs. “Parents line up and wait for hours because it might be the only hope for their kids to have a normal life,” Gutknecht said. Arrangements are being made to bring children to the U.S. where they receive life-changing operations through a partnership Rotary has with Shriners Hopsital in St. Louis. One of five families in Belize have been touched by the Rotary program, Gutknecht said.
