Trick-or-treat hours announced

MT. VERNON — — The time when ghosts and ghouls and superheroes will roam the streets in search of candy is approaching fast.

The village of Bluford will host trick-or-treaters on Halloween, Oct. 31, but there are no set hours, according to personnel at the village hall. Trick-or-treating is over when residents shut off their porch lights.

In the village of Bonnie, trick-or-treating will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31. Those residents who are handing out candy are asked to leave their porch lights on.

In Dix, trick-or-treaters can hit the streets from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30. Similarly, participating residents should leave their porch light on.

Ina will host costumed crusaders on Halloween from 6 to 8 p.m.

The city of Mt. Vernon will also hold trick-or-treat hours from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

All the kids in search of sweet treats in Woodlawn can begin at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 31, and trick-or-treat hours will extend to 8:30 p.m. in that village.

In addition to trick-or-treating, several area locations offer trunk-or-treats, a parking lot alternative to roaming dark neighborhoods.

First United Methodist Church in downtown Mt. Vernon will host its annual trunk-or-treat on Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the parking lot immediately north of the church.

West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church is inviting trick-or-treaters to its trunk-or-treat from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. Church staff said this year, Rose Lane residents will be treated to a special dinner before they hand out candy at the trunk-or-treat.

Calvary Church will host a trunk-or-treat, cookout and hayride from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 as well.
