MT. VERNON — Carrie Gibbs, director at the Shrode Art Center at Cedarhurst Center for the Arts, checks on some of the pieces she was firing in the glass kiln. The glass has to be heated to 1500 degrees before it becomes liquid and glass rods make up the designs and provide color in the pieces. The glass studio is something new at Cedarhurst, which has been a huge success, Gibbs said.
