BONNIE — — Jefferson County authorities have released the name of the woman found deceased at her home in Bonnie on Thursday.
Rita E. Newell, 84, who lives in the 200 block of West Helkin Drive, was pronounced dead at her residence around 4 p.m. Thursday.
Police received a call about 3:45 p.m. to check on the well-being of the woman. When sheriff's deputies and Ina Police arrived, the residence had to be forcibly entered. The woman's deceased body was found inside the residence.
A search warrant was executed and the crime scene was processed and evidence collected, according to a news release from Sheriff Roger Mulch.
The investigation expanded to the tri-state area, with cooperation from the FBI. As a result, a suspect was identified.
Timothy S. Newell, 42, an occupant of the residence in Bonnie, was arrested at 11:45 a.m. Friday in Sweet Springs, Mo. He is charged with unlawful possession of a stolen or converted vehicle.
Mulch said a waiver of extradition from Missouri has been processed and Newell will be transported back to Jefferson County next week. An autopsy conducted on Ms. Newell performed Friday resulted in additional evidence being collected.
Additional charges are pending against Newell.
