MT. VERNON -- — Organizers say they will likely meet or exceed this year's fundraising goal for the Jefferson County Operation Iraqi Freedom program.
The volunteer effort provides military exchange cards to Jefferson County soldiers serving in war zones. The program's main fundraiser is a porkchop sales event, which took place Friday at Veterans Park.
This year's goal is to raise $13,000 to provide 15 soldiers with $800 exchange cards before Christmas. These local soldiers are serving in Afghanistan or the Afghanistan Theater of Operations.
