---- — MT. VERNON — Three people were arrested, including one from Mt. Vernon, by local police on Thursday following a traffic stop.
According to information, Mt. Vernon/Jefferson County Narcotics Division detectives were conducting surveillance of a residence on Mannen Street when detectives observed a suspicious vehicle in the area. Detectives observed the vehicle as it left and saw the driver commit a traffic violation.
Detectives stopped the vehicle due to the traffic violation and upon speaking to the driver of the vehicle an overwhelming odor of cannabis could be detected. The driver lied about his name to detective. The driver and two occupants of the vehicle were removed from the vehicle and secured due to the overwhelming odor of cannabis.
A search of the vehicle by Narcotics Division detectives resulted in the recovery of about four pounds of cannabis and a large amount of U.S. currency.
Arrested was the driver, 24-year-old Jerrel Stockstill of Mound City, Michael Brooks, 30, of Tinley Park, and Joseph Oliver, 30, of Mt. Vernon.
All were housed in the Jefferson County Justice Center on charges of possession of between 500 and 2000 grams of cannabis with the intent to deliver.
Stockstill was additionally charged with obstructing justice for lying about his name and traffic charges.
