MT. VERNON — The council will get ready for festivals and events at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
Topping the agenda for the festival arts city are requests to close Ninth Street from Broadway to Casey Avenue, Jordan Street from Eighth Street to 10th Street and Casey Avenue from Eighth Street to 10th Street on Oct. 18 from noon on Oct. 18 to 12 a.m. Oct. 20 for the Fall Fest. Additionally, permission is being requested for Illinois Department of Transportation permission to temporarily close portions of Main Street and Broadway from Fourth Street to 12th Street and from Harrison Street to Casey Avenue on 10th Street on Oct. 19 for the Fall Fest.
Also in conjunction with the Fall Fest, a request to close Ninth Street from Broadway to North Street and Harrison Street from 10th Street to Johnson Alley from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 19 will be presented. The closure is for the downtown event, "Cruise-In @ Fall Fest."
Permission to close streets is also being requested by the Elks, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 5, for the Elks 2nd Annual Car Cruise-In event.
The council will also revisit ordinances scheduled for second readings — a kennel ordinance, an ordinance addressing animal offenses and animals running at large, and an ordinance amending the number of liquor licenses.
The ordinances have had a first reading in August, with the ordinance re-defining a kennel needing additional clarification before its final vote.
Members of the Council heard from the public in August during a first reading on the ordinance on dogs running at large and animal offenses, and will be voting on the ordinance on Tuesday night.
The council will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building at Veterans Park.
