MT. VERNON — A second status hearing date has been scheduled for murder suspect Mark Taylor Jr.
A status hearing was held Thursday, and attorneys were awaiting results of a fitness examination conducted by Dr. Angeline Stanislaus.
According to court personnel, the examination results were not available, resulting in the new date.
Meanwhile, Judge David Overstreet appointed assistant public defender Meagan Carnine to represent Taylor. Taylor’s previous attorney, Jerry Crisel, was recently appointed as a judge in the Second Judicial Circuit.
The second status hearing has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 31.
Taylor and three other suspects are accused of shooting 75-year-old cab driver Charles Ellis on May 31, 2011. One suspect entered an open plea of guilty and the remaining two suspects are awaiting trial.
