MT. VERNON — The next step in replacing cast iron water lines on Main and Broadway will be taken Monday by the City Council.
A resolution approving an agreement with Round Table Deisgn, Inc., is on the council meeting agenda to begin the design engineering a the replacement project.
“They will determine where the new lines will go in the streets, be surveying and identifying where we need cross connections, service connections and locate where conflicting utilities might be,” City Manager Ron Neibert said.
The agreement will be for $210,000 for the design engineering. Preliminary plans call for the water line replacements to be completed by the end of 2014.
“We haven’t looked closely at the timeline yet because we may need to do one replacement, then the other,” Neibert said. “By having work on both Main and Broadway, it may cause too many problems with traffic. The council will review the construction plans when they are completed to determine if on the project will have to be split between two different construction years.”
In other business, the council will:
Present a Life Saving Award to a Mt. Vernon Police Department officer;
Hold a second reading on an ordinance granting easements to Ameren Illinois;
Hold a first reading on an ordinance to rezone property at 28th and Veterans Memorial Drive from mobile home park to secondary business as requested by Vic Cusumano;
Discuss a resolution approving an agreement with Evansville Western Railway to install new lights and gates to accommodate improvements to North 42nd Street;
Discuss a resolution to approve an intergovernmental agreement with the Illinois Office of the Comptroller for its local debt recovery program; and
Consent to assignment of a Lake Miller lease from Alice P. Hite to Ricky L. Horton and Tracy L. Horton.
The council will meet 7 p.m. Monday at the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building at Veterans Park.
