Seven sentenced to prison

---- — MT. VERNON — Seven individuals have been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to various offenses, according to information from Jefferson County State’s Attorney Douglas Hoffman.

Jerry L. Bass, 41, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to unlawful failure to register as a sex offender and was sentenced to serve three years in Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by two years of mandatory supervised release. On July 26, Bass, a convicted sex offender, failed to report to the Mt. Vernon Police in the time required by law and was previously convicted of failure to register as a sex offender.

Devin D. Goodwin, 31, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of methamphetamine precursor and was sentenced to three years in prison followed by two years of parole. On March 12, the Mt. Vernon Police Department conducted a traffic stop and found Goodwin to be in possession of pseudoephedrine, a methamphetamine precursor.

Johnny W. Jones, 36, of Dix, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of methamphetamine precursor without a prescription, a class four felony, and was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by one year of parole. On July 10, the Mt. Vernon Police/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Joint Narcotics Division determined that Jones purchased a quantity of pseudoephedrine without a prescription and Jones was previously convicted of possession of methamphetamine. In addition, Jones pleaded guilty to domestic battery, a class four felony, and was sentenced to serve two years in prison followed by four years of parole. On Oct. 2, Jones made physical contact with a family member and was arrested by the JCSO. Both prison sentences will run concurrently.

Anthony S. Shepherd, 28, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to property, a class four felony, and was sentenced to two years in prison followed by one year of mandatory supervised release. On Jan. 31, Shepherd damaged two car doors during an altercation and was arrested by police shortly thereafter.

Derrick D. Thrailkill, 26, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to reckless conduct, a class four felony, and was sentenced to serve one year in prison followed by one year of parole. On Sept. 21, Thrailkill made physical conduct with another individual and was arrested by Mt. Vernon Police.

James L. Hughey, 36, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a class three felony, and was sentenced to two years in prison followed by one year of parole. On Feb. 22, Hughey was found to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine by the Mt. Vernon Police Department while police conducted a search of his residence in connection with an investigation.

Roy L. Gladney, 46, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to domestic battery, and was sentenced to one year in prison followed by four years of parole. On July 9, Gladney made physical contact with his girlfriend and has a previous conviction for domestic battery.
