Drug bust nets two arrests
MT. VERNON — Two people were taken into custody Tuesday at a Mt. Vernon residence for alleged drug activity.
Robert E. Coulson, 31, of the 2400 block of Casey Avenue and John R. Henry, 27, of the same address, were arrested by the joint narcotics unit of the Mt. Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Coulson was charged with possession with intent to deliver over 30 grams of cannabis and possession of drug equipment. Henry was charged with possession of prescription pills with intent to deliver and possession of cannabis.
Two other people were taken into temporary custody and then released, according to a MVPD news release.
The high risk team executed a search warrant at the residence after investigations by the Narcotics Division revealed information that cannabis was being sold from the residence.
A search of the residence by police revealed quantities of cannabis, drug equipment, U.S. currency and prescription pills, the release stated.
McLeansboro man dies in oil field accident
McLEANSBORO — A local man died Tuesday morning when he was pulled into an oilfield operating pumping unit and crushed, Hamilton County’s coroner confirmed.
Alexis B. Anderson, 62, of McLeansboro, was pronounced dead at 10:14 a.m., Coroner Ron Ewald confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
Anderson, a self-employed oilfield pumper, was servicing an oil well when he was killed. The accident happened in a rural area of Hamilton County, south of McLeansboro.
Anderson’s clothing became entangled in moving equipment on the pumping unit, pulling him into the device, Ewald said.
Funeral services for Anderson are pending at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
