BLUFORD — —
Fire destroyed a home at 18665 N. Needle Lane near Bluford on Wednesday.
Webber Township Fire Protection District volunteers were called to the scene of the structure fire at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
WTFPD Chief Marion Sneed said due to the heat and smoke, the structure is considered a total loss.
“They’re not going to have hardly anything at all they can save,” Sneed said.
He said two people were in the house when the fire started, but they were able to escape safely. No injuries were reported.
The house and property are owned by Jeff Bradford, Sneed said.
The cause of the fire was accidental, but remains under investigation, Sneed said.
Jefferson Fire Protection District was called to the scene for mutual aid due to one of Webber’s fire engine’s electronics malfunctioning, he said.
“The electronic modes kicked out on it,” he explained. “We got it back up and running after a while. Whenever we had the problem, we called Jefferson Fire in for the tanker, in case we didn’t get this truck back in service.”
The icy weather on Wednesday morning caused some challenges for the firefighters, Sneed said.
“The weather is quite challenging,” he said. “We was lucky we didn’t have anything freeze up or anything of that sort. The conditions are tough to deal with.”
Firefighters were still on scene early Wednesday afternoon, but Sneed said they were expected to clear the scene before 3 p.m.
