Richard and Lucille (nee Schuster) Herzing of Mt. Vernon will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on June 17.
They were married on June 17, 1954, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis by the Rev. Theodore Eckerman.
Richard is retired from the Illinois State Police after 27 years of service and Lucille is a homemaker who worked at Heil Beauty Supply and now volunteers at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.
They are the parents of five children, Nancy (Monty) Wilson of Bonnie, Mike (Robin) Herzing and Karen (Tom) Williams of Mt. Vernon, Paula (Terry) Szczepanski of DuBois and Mark (Tina) Herzing of Effingham. The couple’s grandchildren Sara (T.J.) Parrish of Mt. Vernon, Kayla Herzing of Effingham and Matthew Herzing of Effingham. The couple’s great-grandchildren are Riley Parrish, Max Parrish and another baby Parrish due in October, all of Mt. Vernon. They also have five step grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren and a step great-great-grandchild due in August.
To celebrate this milestone, the couple along witht heir family will be attending Mass at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Parish in Mt. Vernon on June 21, where they will renew their vows. A family dinner will be hosted that evening by their children.
