On May 9, 1954, 60 years ago, our parents Robert and Sylvia Lane were united in marriage. The ceremony was performed by the late Ross Partridge after church on Mother’s Day. Lorraine (Brookman) Waestman, Mom’s sister and the late Earl Lane, Dad’s brother stood up with them.
It was a brief ceremony as Dad had to get to a baseball game to play. That was the beginning of many years of ball games, as Dad coached and watching grandkids and great-grandkids play all kinds of sports.
They have worked side by side for years in several school communities, Red Cross disasters and in building a business. The last 38 years, they have traveled all over Southern Illinois and surrounding areas, offering the best shake ups and corn dogs. They continue to work in the business and train all of us.
They are the parents of six children, three by birth and three by marriage, Desra and Cliff Lindemann, Durenda and Norman Galloway and Sonja and Mark Page. They are blessed with five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
We are hosting an open house for them from 2 to 4 p.m. May 18, at the Bluford Ruritan Building. Please come help us celebrate with a piece of cake.
No gifts please. Your presence is our gift.
If you can’t come and would like to bless them with a card, their address is 21324 E. Swan Rd., Bluford IL 62814.
