Boil water lift

The boil-water order for the 2800, 2900 and 3000 blocks of Jamison Avenue has been lifted by the City of Mt. Vernon Utilities Department.

Elks to hold clinic

The Illinois Elks Crippled Children’s Program, in cooperation with the Mt. Vernon Lodge 819, Centralia Lodge 493, Fairfield Lodge 1631, Salem Lodge 1678 and McLeansboro Lodge 1882, announces the continuation of its free Orthopedic Clinic services for children with a quarterly clinic in Mt. Vernon.

The next free clinic will be on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, from 3 to 5 p.m. The clinic will be held at Neuromuscular Orthopaedic Institute, 302 Broadway in Mt. Vernon. Appointments for the clinic are only available through the Elks Program by calling toll free (800) 272-0074 between 1 and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Elks of Illinois have made working with physically challenged children their major project since 1928.

They currently conduct free clinics at 19 locations in Illinois on a rotating basis. On an average, a clinic is held every third working day in Illinois.

The clinic is ideal for children ages 0 to 21 with flat feet, feet that turn out or in, and for children who complain of leg, knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist or back pain.

This is also an excellent opportunity to have children just starting to walk reviewed for proper development.

The Elks program provides for all diagnostic related costs including x-rays, MRI’s and other required tests. In addition, the Elks will provide financial support for further treatment when needed and the family lacks financial resources.

Any area physician is welcome to refer a patient to the clinic for review or a second opinion, however a referral is not required to attend.

LIHEAP program

The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services has announced that Crosswalk Community Action Agency will be administering Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for Jefferson, Franklin and Williamson counties. The program, which provides financial assistance to eligible households to help pay a portion of their winter heating bills, began in September.
