Donna Lavon Owens

Donna Lavon Owens, 72, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at St. John's Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.

She was born in Mt. Vernon on Friday, April 10, 1936, a daughter of Otto Benard and Anna Joanna Christina (Otten) Metje. She married Jack M. Owens on March 7, 1954, in Mt. Vernon.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Everett Lemay. Interment will follow.

In honor of her wishes, there will be no public visitation.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Owens of Mt. Vernon; four sons, Max Owens and wife Jerri of Mt. Vernon, James Owens and Connie of Mt. Vernon, John Owens and wife Angie of Mt. Vernon, Michael Owens of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Jacob Owens, Danielle Carello, Matt Owens and wife Mallorie, Jamie Owens, Doug Owens, Joshua Owens, Mallory Owens, Jason Mellott and Brandon Hines; great-grandchildren, Peyton Owens, Kylon Shipp, Tristan Carello and Hunter Hines; a brother, Morris Metje and wife Dorothy of Lanesville, Ind.; a sister, Jo Ann Glover of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents; one son, Danny Ray Owens; three brothers, Otton, Victor and Roger Metje; four sisters, Blanch Metje, Marguerite Mick, Ethelyn Metje and Virginia Rankin preceded her in death.

Donna was secretary for Central Kitchen of Mt. Vernon City Schools District 80 and was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or to the donor's choice and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
