Gary Wayne Flanagan
Gary Wayne Flanagan, 66, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at his home.
He was born in Mt. Vernon on Friday, Aug. 29, 1941, a son of Onis A. and Virginia F. (Bullock) Flanagan. He married Phyllis Jean Grant on Oct. 25, 1963, in Mt. Vernon, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 2000.
Private services will be held Sunday with the Rev. Derek Downs officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
Gary is survived by his mother, Virginia F. Flanagan of Mt. Vernon; a son, Robert Wayne “Rob” Flanagan and wife Kristin of Olney; a daughter, Jodi Cooper and husband Ian of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Hailey, Kaitlyn and Braden Flanagan of Olney, and Lukas, Beau and Kyle Cooper of Mt. Vernon; his fiancée, Cheryl Campbell of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Nancy Sodders and husband Jerry of Mt. Vernon, Judy Knolhoff and husband Steve of Mt. Vernon, and Tammy Payne and husband David of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Mike Flanagan and wife Ramona of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
His father and his wife preceded him in death.
Gary farmed; he enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Olney Tigers basketball team. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was a member of Moore’s Prairie Baptist Church.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Good Samaritan and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
