— Gene Matthews, 67, of Johnsonville died at 8:05 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at his home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1940, in Wayne City, son of Warren and Annie (Ferguson) Matthews. He married Judy Youngblood on Aug. 5, 198, and she survives.
Also surviving are his mother, of Wayne City; three sons, Donald Matthews of Cisne, Joe Matthews of Johnsonville and Warren Matthews of Carbondale; a stepson, Curtis Sutton and wife Jessica of Sims; two stepdaughters, Kareene Blasdale and husband John of Naperville and Camelia McKinney and husband Barry of Johnsonville; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jimmy Matthews and wife Tina of Mt. Vernon, Wilburn Matthews of Wayne City and Rick Matthews and wife Cheryl of Cisne; and two sisters, Lois Pennington and husband Bill of Wayne City and Beverly Reinner and husband Rick of Wayne City.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother.
Mr. Matthews was disabled. He was a member of Bailey Arrington Prairie Church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City with the Rev. Roger Tate officiating. Interment will follow at Garrison Temple.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
