Nora L.Scott Collins
Nora L. Scott Collins, 67, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She was born in Jefferson County on April 10, 1941, a daughter of Joe H. and Nellie Mae (Howard) Scott. She married Robert Penrod, Connie Blankenship, and Irvin Collins, and all of them preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with Rev. Larry Jones officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Nora is survived by life companion, David Wilt of Mt. Vernon; three sons, Robert L. Penrod II and wife Christie of Benton, William H. Penrod and wife Rita of Mt. Vernon and John Scott Penrod of Mt. Vernon; four daughters, Robyn Parra and husband Ruben of Alaska, Janet Buchanan of Mt. Vernon, Sarah Carpenter of Mt. Vernon and Lori Maramba of Murphysboro; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Scott and wife Della of Mt. Vernon and Michael Lee of Boston, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; two brothers, Gene and Joe Scott; and son-in-law, David Carpenter preceded her in death.
Nora worked for the St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Child Care Center in Mt. Vernon, where she taught 2 and 3 year-olds.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the West Side Baptist Church or to the Diabetes Assocation and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
