Ruth N. Odom, 97, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at her home.
She was born in Ellery on Dec. 29, 1910, a daughter of George Douglas and Lela Mae (Ramsey) Baker. She married Virgil Odom on July 9, 1932, in Fairfield, and he preceded him in death on June 10, 1999. Ruth was a homemaker
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be from noon until 1:30 p.m. time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
Ruth is survived by four daughters, Joyce Seger and husband Leo of Centralia, Dorothy Puckett and Tom of Mt. Vernon, Doris Fields and husband Russell of Mt. Vernon and Brenda Felty and husband George of Mt. Vernon; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; husband; one son, Gerald R. Odom; two grandsons, Michael Seger and Randy Seger; one great-granddaughter, Danielle Felty; one brother, Henry Baker; one sister, Mary Neavill; one daughter-in-law, Linda Odom; and one son-in-law, James Stubblefield, preceded her in death.
Ruth was the oldest living member of Central Christian Church.
Ruth was a perfect Rose without thorns. A caring mother who was loved by all! She was a proud American who loved to display the flag.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to Central Christian Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
