Rinaldo J. Yon, 91, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 11:50 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas.
He was born in Christopher on Aug. 28, 1916, a son of Battista J. and Theresa (Osmanville) Yon. He marred Ellen M. Bainer on June 4, 1949, and she preceded him in death on June 26, 2005. He worked as a salesman for Paul Tick Licquor Co. for 40 years.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon with Father Daniel Jurek officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Full military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 141.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday with a rosary being held at 7:30 p.m. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Tolle and husband Steve of Indianapolis, Ind., and Nancy Simko and husband Robert of Dallas, Texas; and four grandchildren, Treyce Simko, Reagan Simko, Chelsea Tolle, and Mackenzie Tolle.
His parents and three sisters, Palmyra Humphrey, Mary Brown, and Norma Laprestg preceded him in death.
Rinaldo served in the United Sates Air Force and was a B-25 Pilot during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Mt. Carmel, Elks Lodge 715 Mt. Carmel, and VFW Post 1376 Mt. Vernon, and was a member of the American Legion Post 141 Mt. Vernon, Moose Lodge 755 Mt. Vernon, Amvets Post 4 Mt. Vernon, and Southern Illinois Senior Golf Association. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
