Clifford R. Wilson, 92, of Mt. Vernon died at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Sept. 27, 1915, in Jefferson County, son of William H. and Ellen (Crane) Wilson. He was first married to Josephine Ancona on Sept. 21, 1941, in Mt. Vernon, and she preceded him in death on March 17, 1993. He later married Avis Lee on May 14, 1994, in Mt. Vernon, and she survives.
Mr. Wilson is also survived by two granddaughters, Tia Rae Dunaway and husband Jeff of Dix and Stacy Jo Kniffen and husband Michael of Ina; a daughter-in-law, Patricia (Tish) Wilson of Mt. Vernon; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Josie Kniffen, both of Ina; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife, his parents; a daughter, Patricia Rae Dean Wilson; a son, Charles (Chuck) R. Wilson; and two sisters, Mildred Mellott and Rogene Ferguson, preceded him in death.
Mr. Wilson worked for the state of Illinois for the Highway Department. He attended First Church of the Nazarene in Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Paul Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Old Shiloh Cemetery in Jefferson County, with the chaplain of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 conducting a military flag presentation at the cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
