Melvin Latta

Melvin Latta, 56, of Belle Rive, died at 12:19 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

He was born on May 18, 1953, in Sycamore, the son of Irvie Latta and Lucille Smith.

Mr. Latta is survived by a son, John Page of Nason; three sisters, Marilyn Neibel and husband Charlie of Mt. Vernon, Carol Funkhouser and husband Larry of Bonnie and Phyllis McCormick of Benton; a brother, Bob Latta and wife Bobbie of Pensacola, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Latta; and a sister, Susy Garretson.

Mr. Latta worked as a roofer, was of the Church of God faith, and was a loving, caring person with a gentle spirit.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Cubb Cemetery in Jefferson County with the Rev. Harold Witlock officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Hughey Funeral Home.
