Shirley Irene Williams, 82, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at her home in Mt. Vernon with her family that she had so lovingly cared for so many years.
She was born in Belfast, Maine, on Feb. 20, 1927, a daughter of Malcolm “Mack” Vaughan and Vida Flowes Vaughan. She married Merle E. Williams on Oct. 21,1945, in Sandoval.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Allan Mason officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Merle Williams of Mt. Vernon; four sons, Stephen Williams and wife Lydia of Mt. Vernon, Ronald Williams and wife Angel of Ashley, Keith Williams and wife Sue of Benton and Bradley Williams of Northport, Maine; a daughter, Nancy Nagel of Cincinnati, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Hall of Boyton Beach, Fla., and Geraldine Nieweg and husband Walt of Brookhaven, Penn.; brother, Robert Vaughan and wife Evelyn of Liberty, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; son, Brian Williams; two brothers, Malcolm and Paul Vaughan; and two grandsons, Steven Williams and Matt Reich, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Williams was a homemaker.
