James T. Smith, 51, of Opdyke, died at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2009.
He was born on Aug. 9, 1957, in St. Louis, son of Chester and Patricia (Jett) Smith. He married Sharn Lee Fann on May 13, 1989, and she survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, James Richard Smith and wife Tina of Ohio and Michael David Toler of Fenton, Mo.; a daughter, Tabbitha Nicole Smith of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Jerry Lee Smith of Arnold, Mo., and Larry Lee Smith of Arizona; a sister, Peggy Mueller of Hannibal, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and an uncle.
Mr. Smith was a supervisor for Fed Ex Corporation for 13 years, and also worked at Continental Tire for three years and Sears Co., in Mt. Vernon. He was a veteran of the the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the Vietam Conflict.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with the Rev. Elton Storey officiating. Interment will be in Wolf Prairie Cemetery near Waltonville with graveside military rites by the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
