Loyd E. Thompson

Loyd E. “Alf” Thompson, 68, of McLeansboro, passed away at 12:20 a.m. Sun-day, Aug. 31, 2008, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
He was born in Hamilton County on Jan. 14, 1940, a son of Carl and Opal (McPeak) Thompson. He was a retired general laborer and also worked as a butcher at the former Brown’s Market in McLeansboro.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating.
Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Alf is survived by a stepson, Jerry Waters of McLeansboro; daughters, Lori Fox of Mc-Leansboro and Emily Rhymer and husband Nathan of Her-rin; stepdaughter, Kathy Wat-ers Young of McLeansboro; brothers, Wayne Thompson of Cobden and Danny Thompson of Centralia; three grandchildren, Gavin Fox, Cassidy Fox and Abigail Fox; six step grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Gary Waters.
Alf was a member of the Laborers Local 561 of Evansville, Ind., and Eagles Lodge in McLeansboro. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Hopewell Baptist Church.
