Harry Phillip “Phil” Bidwell

Harry Phillip “Phil” Bidwell, 64, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at his home.

He was born in DuQuoin on Monday, Feb. 14, 1944, a son of Harry and Bertha Mae (Dennison) Bidwell. He married Maureen Ann Bailey on March 5, 1966, in Sesser.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon with Father Bert Iffert officiating. The chaplain of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct a military flag presentation service at the cemetery. Interment will follow.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Phil is survived by his wife, Maureen Bidwell of Mt. Vernon; children, Michelle Ruiz and husband Emilio of Griffith, Ind., Kevin Bidwell of Blooming-dale, Ill., and Brian Bidwell and wife Katy of Coal City; and seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

His parents and his stepfather, Jon Tuck-er preceded him in death.

Phil was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, was a retired truck driver and member of the Teamsters Local in Chicago for 20 years and was Catholic by faith.
