Billy Joe Morgan
Billy Joe Morgan, 66, of Overland Park (Morris Village), Kan., passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at his residence.
He was born in Buzzard Roost, Ill., on Dec. 26, 1941, the son of Willie Morgan and Effie (Beckham) Morgan. He worked first as a barber in Kansas City, Mo., and later as a plumber for 36 years at Kinneys Plumbing.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. David Mays officiating. Interment will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County. Full military service will be preformed by Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe, Kansas and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Morgan is survived by four sisters, Maggie Ramson of Nashville, Tenn., Dorothy Mays of Mt. Vernon, Irma Grant and husband Jim of Kansas City, Mo., and Gloria McNeil and husband Mike of Bonnie; brother, Robert Lewis Morgan and wife Lavada of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents; daughter, Cynthia Morgan; six brothers; and five sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Morgan was a graduate of Waltonville High School in Waltonville and was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict. His hobby and love were his antique Farmall tractors that he enjoyed talking about and showing them in parades.
