Lula Mae Barner

Lula Mae Barner, 87, of Mt. Vernon, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center.

She was born on May 28, 1921, in Carlyle, daughter of John and Lena (Sprinkles) Russell. She married John A. Barner Sr. and he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Barner is survived by a son, Michael Barner of Mt. Vernon; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons and parents.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Pavey Chapel C.M.E. Church, and a former member of Eastern Star.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence James officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church.

Services are under the direction of the Jackson Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
