Lavada Burnett

Lavada Jane (Martin) Burnett, 88, of McLeansboro, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
She was born on Jan. 27, 1920, in Hamilton County, daughter of William Wilson and Lavada Jane (Hall) Johnson. She married Paul Martin and Walter Burnett, and they both preceded her in death.
Mrs. Burnett is survived by three daughters, Loretta Jean Pierce and husband Glenn of Spark, Nev., Verna Jean Webb and husband Coy of McLeansboro and Mary Jane Triggs and husband Tom of Evanston; four grandchildren, Kathy Jane Koester of Sparks, Nev., Scott Martin Pierce of Hoffman Estates, Gregory Webb of Norris City and Tina Robinson of Oswedo; 14 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two grandchildren, Michael Pierce and Romeo Sansosti Jr.; two brothers Elton Johnson and Cloyd Johnson and three sisters, Colleen Barr, Wilma Merckels and Floye Thompson.
Mrs. Burnett worked as a presser at the former Decatur Garment Co. in Mc-Leansboro and also worked at Douglas Furniture Factory in Chicago for several years. She attended Webbs Chapel Church for many years and also attended Mt. Olivet Baptist Church for several years.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
