---- — Jerry D. Sanders, 75, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born in Dix on April 19, 1938, the son of Arthur Lesco and Ola Fern Street Sanders.

On May 11, 1956, in Mt. Vernon, he married Patricia Davidson and she survives in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Sanders was a member of the Boyd Christian Church and worked as a welder at the Illinois Central Railroad Car shops in Centralia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and NASCAR racing. People would often see him at Rend Lake Sporting Goods where he spent much of his time visiting with other sportsman. He loved his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Sanders is survived by a son, Joel Sanders and wife Betty of Mt. Vernon; a daughter. Lisa Stockman and husband Alan of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Chelsea Graham and husband Eric and their children Harper and Gentry all of Ina, Haley Porter of Belleville, Taylor Stockman of Mt. Vernon, Amy Mowrer and husband Kris and their child Gavin all of Mt. Vernon and Olivia Sanders and fiancée Brandon Branon and his children Kylee and Rylee all of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Maxine Metzger of Centralia and Ruth Rollinson of Salem; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Beal of Dix; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Matthew; five sisters, Francis Gayman, Wanda Mazon, Dorothy Simmons, Shirley Beal and Margret Sanders; and two brothers, Herbert and Darrell Sanders. Graveside services for Mr. Sanders will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. There will be no public visitation.Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice will be received at the Osborn Funeral Home P.O. Box 130, Dix, IL 62830, who is in charge of the arrangements.
