Janet Roberta Nowicki, 74, of Radom and formerly of Waltonville, passed away 1:58 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.
Mrs. Nowicki was born June 13, 1939, in Woodlawn, the daughter of Andy and Mary Ellen (Bourland) Stevens. She married Marvin Nowicki on Dec. 15, 1958, in Mt. Vernon, and he survives in Radom.
Janet graduated from Waltonville High School in the class of 1957. She traveled the USA and abroad with her Navy husband for the first 25 years of married life, spending many years on the East Coast of the United States and in Spain and Morocco. During the 1980s and early 1990s with her husband Marvin, she co-owned local grocery stores in Waltonville, Ina, and Woodlawn. Since 1991 to present day the partnership owns and operates the Market Place in Ashley. She will be remembered for her outgoing smile, laughter, friendliness, and ability to talk to people while never forgetting a name or face.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxilary for the VFW Post in Waltonville. She loved going to the casinos to play slots with special friends Connie Dressler, Norma Richardson, Frannie Pyzska, Alica Pyzska, and Shirley Nadolski. She also enjoyed her card playing social group: Linda Norris, Karen Pennington, Kathy Williams and Anna Rightnowar.
Mrs. Nowicki is survived by her husband, Marvin E. Nowicki of Radom; two sons, Jonathan Nowicki and wife Tammy of Peachtree City, Ga., and Derek Nowicki and wife Debbie of Peachtree City, Ga.; sister, Jill Nordin and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Kyle, Christopher, Ryan, Tyler, Ashton and Quin Nowicki, all of Peachtree City, Ga.; brother-in-law, Eugene Nowicki and wife Kay of Cave-in-Rock; sister-in-law, Joan Brown and husband Fred of Pinckneyville; nephews, Kevin Hug, Kenny Hug, Craig Hug, all of Radom, Matthew Nordin of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Timmy Nowicki of Nevada, Texas; nieces, Ali Nordin of Mt. Vernon, Tanya Nowicki-Sharp of Carbondale, Kim Hug of Radom, Gail Vroman of Washington, Janice Welsch of Round Rock, Texas, Amy Cabernaro of Lovine, Texas, Katherine Janish of Algonquin and Cindy Chapman of Farmington, Mich., and several cousins.
