---- — Thomas Lee Williams, 82, of Valier, died Aug. 12, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

He was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Griffin, Ind., the son of Clifford B. Williams and Emerene (Rainey) Williams Remter. He married Geneva Pearl (Isom) Williams on Nov. 21, 1953.

He attended high school at Rights High School in Evansville, Ind.

He was an accomplished bricklayer and stone mason since 1949. He helped build SIU, Rend Lake College, Carbondale Post Office, Times Square Mall and many area schools.

He was a member of Valier First Baptist Church, a Valier board member for many years, the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the Scottish Rights.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Debbi and Gary Reed of Rockvale, Colo., Michael and Ginny Williams of Sesser, Lori and Denny Baggett of O’Fallon and John and Crystal Williams of Valier; grandchildren, Michelle and Curtis Rogers, Chad and Tonika Schuster, Manda and Bill Palmer, Mikala Williams, Hannah Williams, Logan Baggett, Gabe Saul, Gracie Saul, Thomas Williams and Matt Williams; great-grandchildren, Cole Rogers, Kennedy Rogers, Camden Rogers, Kassedy Rogers, Madalyn Pearl Schuster, Lyndsie Palmer, Garrett Palmer and Tanner Palmer; and brothers and sisters, Billy Dean Williams of Lincoln, Neb., Janet (Hart) James of Evansville, Ind., Bonnie Provaznik of Valier, Charlene Hampton of Christopher, Steve Williams of DuQuoin, Connie Cutler of Christopher, Theresa Evans of Mt. Vernon and Ricky Jo Williams of Herrin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerry Ray Cavins; and two sisters, Anna Rose George and Snooki Bowers.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Valier First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 5 p.m. Sunday at Valier First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Valier First Baptist Church.

The Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home of Sesser is in charge of arrangements.
