Jimmy Paul Johnson, age 81, of Mt. Vernon, passed away 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at his home.
Jimmy was born June 17, 1932, a son of Robert and Cora Beatrice (Sheldon) Johnson. He first married Kay M. (Shaw) and they later divorced. He then married Mary Ann (Taylor) on Dec. 1, 1984, in Mt. Vernon and she survives in Mt. Vernon.
Mr. Johnson worked as a mason for many years, retiring at the age of 75. He served his country in the United States Navy serving in Korea. He had attended the New Hope Baptist Church. He was a proud member of the VFW Post 1376 in Mt. Vernon and the Eagles Lodge in Mt. Vernon.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Johnson of Mt. Vernon; three children, Robert Lee Johnson of Mt. Vernon, David Scott Johnson and wife Brenda of Mt. Vernon and Stormy Autumn Johnson of Mt. Vernon; three step-children, Jeffrey Lee Temelcoff and fiancé Ginger of Ina, Eric Scott Hout of Hillsboro and Tracy Glaum and fiancé Dennis Heck Jr. of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Jerry Johnson and wife Betty of Mt. Vernon and Michael Wayne Johnson of Golconda; one sister, Donna Sue Wayer of Nashville, Tenn.; eleven grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Jean Meek; and a brother, Thomas Robert Johnson.
A private family military flag presentation will be conducted by the American Legion Post 141 in Mt. Vernon.
Memorials may be made in memory of Jimmy Johnson to the Hospice of Good Samaritan and will be accepted at the Newell Funeral Home 2707 North Street Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
