Paul Lynch

Paul S. Lynch, 91, of Bonnie, died 1:27 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Wednesday, Nov. 30, 1921, in Bonnie, the son of Duke and Gertrude (Johnston) Lynch. He married Dorothy Reid on Nov. 23, 1947, in Benton.

Paul was a World War II veteran inducted into the U.S. Army on July 8, 1942, and served as a TEC 5 Full Track Driver with Battery A 124, Field Artillery Battalion, 33rd Division. His division took part in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign and was involved in battles fought in New Guinea and in Luzon, where he was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in action in May 1945. Following his discharge from military service on Nov. 25, 1945, he was a miner for Freeman coal mine and Old Ben coal mine and retired in 1986, from Inland Steel. He was a member of the United Mineworkers of America (UMWA) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8157 of Waltonville. He enjoyed playing pinochle, fishing and gardening and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lynch of Bonnie; two sons, Gary Lynch and wife Sandra of Bonnie and Ronald Lynch and wife Natalie of Bonnie; daughter, Brenda Anderson; four grandchildren, Ryan Lynch and wife Jennifer of Mt. Vernon, Rachel Lynch of Bonnie and Megan and Logan Czerniejewski of Dubois; grandson and “best buddy”, Lucas Lynch of Bonnie; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Floyd Lynch; and two sisters, Mildred Muzzarelli and Cora Carter.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
