Thelma Jean Boswell, 85, of Opdyke, died 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.
She was born Sunday, June 24, 1928, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Arthur F. and Velda Mae (Gaddis) Boswell.
Thelma was a billing secretary for Tri-County Electrical Cooperative in Mt. Vernon for 40 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mt. Vernon and she loved playing cards, bowling and was also a member of Tri-County Bowling League.
She is survived by sister, Mildred Eller of Centralia; nieces and nephews, Carol Hollern and husband John of Savoy, Kenneth Smith and wife Dianne of Springfield, Dale Eller and wife Corrine of Evergreen, Colo. and Donald Smith and wife Louise of Coconut Creek, Fla.; brother-in-law, Ralph Smith of Mt. Vernon; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ruth Smith; and brother-in-law, Bob Eller.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Victor Long officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
