Eric Wayne Houser, 37 years, five months and 28 days, of Mt. Vernon, died 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Aug. 21, 1976, in Centralia, the son of Mark and Deborah (Borowiak) Houser.
Eric was a self-employed carpenter, a builder and a designer of several projects in Mt. Vernon including Rare Chophouse and Headpieces By Toni location. He redesigned the old pool hall in Mt. Vernon and the National Railway Equipment building (former location of the Bank of Illinois) and he designed the Girl Scout House in Centralia. He was also maintenance manager for Farrar and Federici families, a member of Mt. Vernon Gun & Sportsman Club and an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, kayaking and his dog, “Kaya”.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Debbie Houser Roeder and Derrell Roeder of Mt. Vernon; grandmother, Barbara Martin of Sandoval; son, Tristan Houser of Mt. Vernon; brother, Bryan Houser of Mt. Vernon; sister, Chandra Lancia and husband John of Chesterfield, Mo.; nephews, Trevor Houser and Joseph Houser; nieces, Madison Houser, Sofie Lancia, Gianna Lancia and Isabella Lancia; and special friends, Tess Barnett, Dustin Barnett and Lyla Barnett, all of Mt. Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandfather; and one nephew, Wesley Houser.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
Eric will be cremated following the visitation.
