Wilma L. Mayo, 79, of Mt. Vernon, died at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Summersville, Mo., the daughter of James L. and Anna Belle (Byars) Bandy. She first married Robert Snow on Feb. 11, 1957, in Jefferson County and he preceded her in death. She later married Charles Ray Mayo on Oct. 8, 1985, in Mt. Vernon, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 2009.
She is survived by three sons, James Snow and wife Brenda of Dix, Charles Robert Snow and wife Teresa of Mt. Vernon and Rick Snow of Robinson, Texas; daughter, Sherry Burge of Mt. Vernon; stepson, Rick Mayo and wife Beverly of Decatur; stepdaughter, Vickie O’Dea and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon; brother, Vernon Bandy and wife Darlene of Salem; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both husbands; two brothers, James Willis Bandy and William Austin Bandy; and three sisters, Eunice Robinson, Viola Beal and Alma Bishop.
Wilma worked as the deli and catering manager for Martin’s IGA and Borowiak’s IGA. She was well-known for her cooking and catering. She was of the Southern Baptist faith.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County with the Rev. Randy Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
