Hershel Campbell

---- — Hershel E. Campbell, 88, of McLeansboro, died 9:35 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.

He was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Hamilton County, the son of John R. “Dyke” and Mary Francis (Hargrove) Campbell. He married Nadine Mitchell.

He is survived by his sons, Rex Eugene Campell of Morris and Joshua Pia Campbell of McLeansboro; his daughters, Sherry Lea (Husband Paul) McIntosh of Verona and Donita Fern Marciniec of Roscoe; a brother, Halbert Campbell of Peoria; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Campbell; and two sisters, Flora L. Mitchell and Hazel Campbell.

Mr. Campbell was a retired oil field worker and welder. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. today at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the time of services today at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Prospect Cemetery near McLeansboro with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 106 of McLeansboro.

Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
