---- — Gary Eugene Capps, 70, of Catawba, S.C., passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

He was born in Mt. Vernon, the son of the late Roy and Mary Mathus Capps. He was retired from Warco Construction Co. in Charlotte, N.C. He formerly worked for International Harvester in East Moline. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany and a member of VFW Post 2889 in Rock Hill, S.C. Mr. Capps enjoyed fishing, camping, small engine repair and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Redmond Capps.

Mr. Capps is survived by his wife, Linda Martin Capps; his son, Jerry Capps and wife Maria of Arizona; his daughters, Robin Capps of Mt. Vernon and Tracey Smith and husband David of Indian Trail, N.C.; brothers, Otis Capps and wife Donna of Geneseo and Kenneth Capps and wife Colleen of Geneseo; sisters, Francis Rowles and husband Mark of Charleston and Lila Watkins of Holts Summit, Mo.; sister-in-law, Mary Capps of Matthews, N.C.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and special friends Charlie English and sister-in-law, Gennie Smith of Rock Hill.

Services for Mr. Capps will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at Neely’s Creek ARP Church, 974 Neely’s Creek Road, Rock Hill, S.C., with the Rev. Heiko Burklin officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C., 29732 and other times at the home.
