D’Etta June Heard, 83, died 10:25 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Mt. Vernon Country Side Manor.
She was born Saturday, Nov. 1, 1930, in Jefferson County, the daughter of the. Rev. Douglas Cox and Selma (Labrier) Davis.
She married Herman “Lee” Heard on Nov. 8, 1947, in Morganfield, Ky. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Her husband, Herman “Lee” Heard, preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2010.
D’Etta was a lifelong member of East Side Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Aleea Brewer and husband Carl of Port Orford, Ore. and Kela Campbell and husband Ron of Richmond, Va.; two grandsons, Lt. Commander Joseph Lee Campbell and wife Melanie of Jacksonville, Fla. and Robert J. Campbell and wife Claire of Richmond, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Anna, Hayden, Lilah, Leighton and Cullen; sister, Rowena Fornear of Argenta; brother, Glenn Davis of Ranson, W. Va.’ and several dear nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roy and Lockie Cox and John and Anna La Brier; parents; husband; infant son, Samuel Lee Heard; sister, Janet (Cox) Greer; and stepfather, Gerald Davis.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
