Magdalena “Lydia” Gowler, 79, of Belle Rive, died 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at home.
She was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Obernesselbach, Germany, the daughter of Friedrich and Babette (Strobel) Forrer. She married Kenneth Gowler on June 14, 1954, in Munich, Germany, and he preceded her in death.
She was named a Senior Saint for Jefferson County in 2011. She was of the Lutheran faith. She was a retired Opdyke-Belle Rive Grade School teacher’s aid.
She is survived by sons, Fred (wife Joyce) Gowler of Belle Rive, Kenneth Gowler, Jr. of Belle Rive and Donald (wife Barbara) Gowler of Bluford; daughters, Barbara (husband Tom) Williamson of Belle Rive and Beverly (husband Ron) Sears of Belle Rive; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Tony) Warren, Emily Gowler, Ashley (Matthew) Williams, Rachel (Joey) Hattendorf, Ethan Gowler, Austin Gowler, Monica (JC) Tinsley and Eudel (Casey) Tucker; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ernst Forrer of Nurenberg, Germany and Fritz Forrer of Diespeck, Germany.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one granddaughter, Felicia Ann Tucker; son-in-law, Eudel Tucker, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Mina Forrer.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with the Rev. Jeremy Hamson officiating. Interment will be held at Old Hickory Hill Cemetery near Bluford.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services Friday at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.
Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes and Heart Association and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
